Summits & Co-Curriculars
Leadership Summits
Once every semester the students and staff in each of our two Leadership RAP
studies programs, the CLSP and the ELLC, attend a weekend leadership summit.
These leadership summits provide a wonderful opportunity for us to come together
as a community and put our best thinking forward as we consider the major issues
facing our society.
The summits generally include community building activities, outdoor problem
solving and team building initiatives, and an in-depth examination of relevant
and current social issues. Past summits have included overnights at the Balarat
Outdoor Education Center of the Denver Public Schools, and teamwork exercises
at the CU Recreation Center’s Ropes Challenge Course. The summit schedule
varies, depending on which semester we’re in
.
Co-curricular Activities
Several times each semester the Leadership RAP sponsors special events to enrich the experience of our students. Special guest speakers are brought in and students in the CLSP and ELLC studies programs come together for these events.
Some of our events include:
- An evening with documentary filmmaker George Butler, who makes films about extraordinary individuals, such as Pumping Iron (Arnold Schwarzenegger), The Endurance (Ernest Shakelton) and Going Upriver (John Kerry)
- 2008 Presidential Debate Series—Pre-debate events followed by debate watching. Discussion topics included Colorado Amendment 46, the “Civil Rights Amendment,” Differences in the Republican and Democratic platforms, and some impacts of race and gender on the 2008 election.
- Aaron Harber, the host of “The Aaron Harber Show,” a weekly television program promoting civil discourse, broadcast in Denver. Aaron is known for insightful discussions with his guests on national and international issues.

- A Spring Celebration is enjoyed by students and staff every April. The event honors graduating students for their accomplishments at CU-Boulder and inspires the freshman class to follow in their footsteps. Entertainment and a catered dinner add to the festivities.
- Plus, an ever-changing list of speakers dealing with current topics in our society.
